Information and Travel Tips
The Road To Wisdom
Alcohol/Drugs and Riding
Drinking alcohol and/or taking illicit drugs while riding is unacceptable and may jeopardise your participation in the guided ride.
Booking Terms and Conditions
Our booking terms and conditions, including our payment and cancellation policy, are contained in our Guided Ride Terms and Conditions. Please read these terms and conditions carefully. A copy of the document can be accessed here -->
Licence
Generally overseas visitors can ride motorcycles covered by their overseas licence class. If your licence is not written in English, you must also carry an English translation, or an International Driving Permit. It is your responsibility to ensure that your overseas licence class covers the motorcycle that you will be renting for the guided ride.
Luggage
A maximum of one (1) large suitcase and one (1) carry-on bag is allowed per person.
You may wish to bring a small soft bag that can be carried in the panniers/saddle bags on your motorcycle to hold personal items needed throughout the day while riding.
Minimum and Maximum Numbers on Guided Rides
All guided rides will only proceed once a minimum of 6 motorcycles have been booked for the guided ride.
The maximum number of motorcycles that we will have on any one guided ride is 12. We have found that a smaller group allows us to include more in each tour comfortably.
In exceptional circumstances we may agree to increase the number of motorcycles on a guided ride however this will always be dependant on the availability of motorcycles.
Motorcycle Choice
The rental company will endeavour to provide you with the model of motorcycle you have requested on the booking form however sometimes they may need to substitute a different model for reasons beyond our control. Wherever possible the substitution will be of a similar model or class of motorcycle. We will always communicate any substitutions with you as soon as we are made aware of any changes.
Passports and Visas
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a valid passport and any necessary visa or any other necessary travel documents for your travel to Australia.
Personal/Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance before you travel. The policy should cover medical expenses, medical evacuation and repatriation, trip cancellation expenses, lost luggage, accidental death etc. Please also check that the policy covers riding a larger capacity motorcycle as some policies restrict the size of the motorcycle that it will cover. Sometimes an additional fee is payable to the insurance company to extend the policy to the larger capacity motorcycles.
Riding Gear
Helmets are mandatory while riding in all states in Australia. All helmets must meet either the Australian Standard AS 1698 or the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe UNECE22.05 or 22.06. Both full face and open face helmets are allowed so long as they carry the required AS or ECE certification. DOT "micro" helmets are NOT legal in Australia. You may bring your own helmet but please make sure that it meets the required certification.
Riding clothes should include sturdy long pants, jackets and gloves at a minimum. Textile and/or protective riding gear is better.
Footwear should be sturdy leather boots that provide ankle protection.
Wet weather jacket and pants or rain suits are advisable for your own personal comfort. We will ride in wet weather unless it is deemed unsafe.
Neat casual clothing is acceptable to wear to evening meals. You should also bring a swimsuit/bathers as most hotels that we stay at have a pool for guests.
Speed Limits
Speed limits in Australia range from 110 kilometres per hour (68 miles per hour) on freeways/motorways to 50 kilometres per hour (31 miles per hour) in urban built-up areas. Our ride leaders will never travel at speeds over the signposted speed limit.
